Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication..

Leonardo Da Vinci

Mr. Kaneko is a prolific artist, sculptor and is also the skillful in the techniques of glass, textiles and paper and canvas. His work struck me because it's primarily in black and white, simple and unique. And yet he is proficient in intricate designs and some of his ceramics' glazes resemble that of textiles. The simplicity of the design belie the proficiency of his work, where one can barely spot the human element required in his work..very beautiful and spare in its eloquence.

Whittle Chair  via

Who knew that chairs could carry so many different forms and mean so many different things? These incredible chairs are part of Karen Ryan's body of work. An artist's view, turning a piece of furniture we all take for granted, and morphing it into a sensitive visual concept. Her work is a plethora of ideas conceptualized through messages printed on home objects and given a deeper meaning by simply changing the subtext...very keen! And certainly a movement in art we will see time and time again, recycling common objects and turning them into an interesting and thought provoking work of art..
